Public Transportation

Caltrain
Caltrain’s northern terminus is at 4th and King Streets on the northern edge of Mission Bay. There are plans for a Downtown San Francisco extension where an additional 1.3 mile tunnel has been proposed to extend Caltrain from the current northern terminus in San Francisco at 4th and King to a rebuilt Transbay Terminal, where it would be much closer to the job center of San Francisco and connect directly with BART, Muni, crossbay AC Transit buses, and long-distance buses. This project is scheduled to start construction in 2006 and open in 2012.

Third Street Light Rail

The T-Third Metro line connects the Third Street neighborhoods to the full Muni Metro system, providing a vital link between the southeast sector of San Francisco and the rest of the City.

Phase 1: In April 2007, full service for the T-Third Street Muni Metro light rail was extended south from its terminal at Fourth and King Streets to cross the Fourth Street Bridge and run along Third Street through Mission Bay ending at the Bayshore CalTrain Station in Visitacion Valley.

Phase 2 will extend light rail service north from King Street along Third Street, entering a new Central Subway near Bryant Street, crossing beneath Market Street and running under Geary and Stockton Streets to Stockton and Clay Streets. Underground subway stations will be located at Moscone Center, Market Street, Union Square and Clay Street in Chinatown. Muni and the City are actively pursuing funding for the Central Subway.

UCSF Shuttle Service
The University of California San Francisco provides free shuttle services to the UCSF community between all major campus locations on a regular schedule Monday through Friday between 7 am - 8 pm (excluding campus holidays). Some shuttles pick up after hours and on weekends.
